*LANGUAGE:
English is widely used but with Fijian and Hindi predominate
*DRESS:
Suitable dress is cotton, cool, casual and relatively modest. A cardigan sweater
or light jacket may be required in the evenings.
*IMMIGRATION:
Visitors must have a current passport valid for more than three months from
the date of entry, adequate funds to support themselves and a return ticket.
Permits are granted on arrival for four months and may be extended for up to
six months.
*LOCAL
TRANSPORT: Traveling by bus is cheap and enjoyable. Buses can usually
be waved down on the road in a similar fashion to taxis. Taxis are numerous
and are metered at 50 cents flag fall. Ferries operate to many of the outer
islands with facilities for transporting vehicles.
*ELECTRICITY:
Electricity is available to all main centres at 240 volts, 50 cycles A.C.
*CLIMATE:
Fiji enjoys a tropical South Sea maritime climate without great extremes of
heat or cold and is a perfect holiday destination, especially for those trying
to escape the severe northern hemisphere winters. Maximum summer temperatures
(November - April) average 30 degrees celsius . While summer is also called
our "rainy season", expect some showers or heavy rainfalls or the possibility
of a cyclone. The winter (May - October) average maximum is 26 degrees celsius.
