Hualien, located in eastern Taiwan, has an area of 4628 km2 and a population of 350,000. The splendid Taroko valley, the natural coastal landscape, the rowing in the Hsiukulien Stream and the spa bath in Rueisui and Antung, as well as the Rite of Harvest of Ahmei Tribe are all resources of tourism in Hualien.

Taroko Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful, narrow ravine created by a river which has cut through mountains of solid marble and granite. A road carved into sheer walls of rock snakes its way past forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above it, while hundreds of feet below a river roars past gigantic marble boulders. Here and there, pavilions, pagodas, or temples cling to mist-clad mountainsides; elsewhere, waterfalls gush from crevices in the steep cliffs.. |
